Actually, the fact is that you are just dumb...

You booked the room through Expedia,*not* the hotel...a booking site
can charge any price they want, has nought to do with the hotel's
actual rate.

In future *always* check the hotel's site first, or better yet call
them directly. You'll often get a very good rate this way...
