Have you seen or experienced the new "fingerprint scan" payment
system? Apparently you get fingerprinted by the store, they take all
your personal info, and then at checkout you simply place your finger
on a scanner and that's it...no PIN numbers or other authorisation
necessary, it's touted as being "foolproof".

It's used by one grocer here that I know of (Jewel in the US Midwest),
when the system was announced some people wondered if their
fingerprint info would be forwarded to the FBI...

The Chicago Transit Authority has an Oyster - type card, but it's been
somewhat riddled with problems, if you can believe the popular
press...of course we are somewhat behind the times here, the CTA is
still "experimenting" with GPS tracking of buses.
