I never recommend anyone go to Mexico before the 15th of November or after
the 15th of March. That puts you into the most comfortable weather of the
year, and well away from the hurricane season in the Caribbean. For what you
seeem to want out of your trip, that is, a good overview of what Mexico has
to offer, I'd strongly suggest the state of Oaxaca. The city is beautiful,
with weather that you can easily live with. It offers a lot of culture, some
of the best handcrafts in mexico, a great market, wonderful food, and all at
very reasonable prices. Its a great town to walk in, and offers easy access
to the ruins of Montealban. From the city its a quick flight to either the
laid back beaches of Puerto escondido, or the higher priced but very nice
beaches and hotels of Huatulco. I'd also suggest that, depending on how much
time you have, don't try to see too much, or travel too much. Confine the
trip to the above areas, and get to see them thoroughly, and I can promise
you a very pleasant and informative trip, with great food, great beach time,
and great memories. The best part of Mexico is being able to slow down to
its pace, and enjoying life a bit.....Howard
