Fly into Cancun. Head south on Hwy 307 down to Tulum. It's about
like Playa del Carmen was 10 years ago. You can run around naked on
several nearby beaches, and snorkel on some of them.
From the town of Tulum, you can visit the ruins of Tulum, Coba, Ek
Balam, and Chichen Itza. I'd use a rental car. It's expensive, but
lots better than the bus, or tours for visiting ruins... Start early!
For "native culture" spend a couple of days in Valladolid. It's a
modern Maya city, with plenty of things to see & do.
