Subject: Re: CDMA cellphone coverage in Puerto Vallarta? Posted on: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 05:49:14 +0000 (UTC)

There is a phone store at the south end of the Malecon near Hooters
right next to the ice cream shop. Don't remember the name something
like USAcell that will activate for you. Unfortunately it is only good
in PV and Guadalajara. Local cost are not too bad but USA is still
high. Check the rate for receiving from the US. Sometimes ir is
cheaper.

What I have found as the best solution is to check shops for phone
cards. Ladatel will cost you $.45 US p/m to USA where ssome of the
independents are as low as $.20 US p/m

Right now I am in Vera Cruz travelling down the east coast then over to
the west and back up north. Using the phone cards to check in with the
family.

I also brought a GSM phone and had it activated in case my family needs
to contact me in an emergency. Activation is 200 pesos w/ 100 pesos
prepaid. local call 1p/m Mexico, long distance 4p/m, To USA 9 p/m, and
only 4 p/m to receive from the USA. Used the GSM as it is good
anywhere in Mexico.

If you are just staying in PV checkout the USAcell as they can
activated my Verizon TDMA last year for around 300 pesos that include
almost as much time, ssoo the activation was essentially free. I think
the per minutes were equivalent.
