Gracias a todos for the feedback and suggestions. After reading an
entry in Lonely Planet, I decided on Rinc=F3n de Guayabitos - relatively
cheap air fare (Bay Area to Puerto Vallarta) , not too long a bus ride,
and lots of local but comfortable accommodations.

I'm leaning toward not making hotel reservations, partly because I
would like some spontaneity, partly because it's probably better to see
the place, and partly bacuse there are other towns nearby if we want a
change.
