LAC,
I don't usually reply to messages on this forum, but your post required
a reply from me.
I have travelled to Mexico almost annually for the past thirty five
years since my teens. I have travelled throughout the country both in
the interior and both coasts. I have owned a business in San Cristobal
De Las Casas in Chiapas, have relatives in Costa Rica and live part
time on the carribean coast of Honduras (my wife is Honduran). We live
in Vancouver, British Columbia during the rest of the year, my point is
I am familiar with most of Mexico and Central America. I am most
comfortable living as a local but I do enjoy staying at a resort as
well. Last summer we wanted to get away for 2 weeks and did exactly as
you indicate doing, cheap flight to P.V., bus ride to Rincon, we stayed
at 2 hotels (Villas Buena Vida was very nice, but approx. $125.00 a
night). HOWEVER, town was very touristy, beach was dirty and very
crowded (summer is full of Mexican vacationers) , garbage pilled-up at
all the hotels not at all a pleasant quiet village, perhaps Sayulita or
futher north would be better. I agree with others go else where! Cheap
flight to Cancun, bus down the coast to Paamul or further, great place
for a quiet getaway.
Hope this helps, good luck.

Michael
