Re: La Paz Mexico Hotels Posted on: Mon, 13 Mar 2006 00:50:28 GMT

We just got back from La Paz March 11th. I think that Los Arcos is the
nicest place in town, I looked at one of the rooms in their cabana
section. The cabana seemed a little dark inside, but a nice feel
outside of the cabana, kind of like being in the jungle. The regular
part of the hotel is a regular hotel, a lot of it is around an interior
courtyard with a pool. Los Arcos is rated 5 stars, a large hotel,
around $100 US per night.

We stayed around the corner from Los Arcos at the Hotel Mediterrane,
very small, I think it is rated 4 stars. It has the best restaurant
that we tried, by far, although we did not try the restaurant at Los
Arcos. Rooms around $70 per night.

We had a room overlooking the bay, which also means it is overlooking
the road that runs down the malecon. I suggest asking for a quiet room
away from the road, and forgetting the view, regardless of whether you
stay at Los Arcos, La Mediterrane, La Perla, or any other hotel in town
around the waterfront.

It is possible that some of the resorts outside of town are nicer and
quieter, but you would probably need a rental car.

The beaches are 15 to 30 km north of town, so you need a rental car to
get there, or take one of the few buses that run the route each day. I
don't think that any of the hotels are on what I would call a nice sandy
beach.

I recommend the Isla Espiritus Sanctus tour, a unique opportunity to
snorkel with sea lions! A good tour, even if you stay in the boat, as
my wife did.

You can get a whale watching tour during Jan-March, but it is a long
day, they start with a two hour drive to get to the boats. It would
probably be smarter to move nearer the whales for a night or two.

We liked La Paz, a quiet place where drivers usually stop to let
pedestrians cross the street.

I can probably field any other questions that you might have, I
collected tourist info, I will be writing an article for mexconnect.com.
