Subject: Furnishing a Mexican Home - Should I Purchase Furniture in US or Mexico? Posted on: Tue, 21 Mar 2006 09:09:07 EST

My wife and I recently purchased a home in Kino Bay, Sonora Mexico and we
need to furnish it. Our options are to bring furniture down from the
United States. (We have a small trailer so we'd probably purchase most of
it from IKEA because their products are packaged to travel well.) In this
case, we'll have to pay an import duty on these items which may make them
very expensive.

Alternatively, we could purchase items in Mexico, Hermosillo I assume.
Hermosillo is of course a large city but I've been unable to find any
directory of furniture or other stores on line. As a result, I don't know
the quality or costs of beds, chairs, sofas etc...

I'd like to know which option is recommended. Should anyone recommend
purchasing furniture in Hermosillo, any suggestions for stores will be
appreciated. Even an online yellow pages or similar information for
Hermosillo would be helpful

Thanks for your help.

P.S. We'll probably bring the refrigerator and oven from our Tucson home
down to Kino Bay, but if you know of a good appliance store in Hermosillo
that may be helpful as well.
