Mexico, it is advised that Americans never drive there own cars in
Mexico.
The American tags make them a target.
And the car is a expensive item to be stolen.
And you are not only an outsider, but you cannot stay and press for an
investigation.
After all, you live in America.
The following is a quote form another post that I found on the subject;
----------------------------------------------------
Youd better have money CASH in your pocket for any type of accident.
You
risk, even if its not your fault but you LOOK like an outsider... you
need
to buy out the other party, or the police or they will impound both
cars on
site until a court decides. Forget who,s guilty, youd better think
smart.
Put ego aside and think survival. The other guy can do without his
clunker
because he lives there, what about you?
By the way, in mexico, if its sure to be their fault, theres a good
chance
they will hit and run because it legally works better in their favor.
For
one, its tougher to impound their car and its tougher to impose guilt
by an
overburdened legal system.

Also;
-------------------------------------------------------------
My father and his colleagues went on a business trip to Monterrey last
year. They stopped at a restaurant and even though it had guarded
parking, they still managed to break into the trunk and steal my
father's luggage. My father's colleague (who is Mexican) suspected
that it might have been an inside job by the parking lot guards and
proceeded to rip them new assholes. To be fair, I used to shop over
in Ju=E1rez and park there and tipped the "watchacarros" to look
after my car and never had a problem.
----------------------------------------------------------------
My thoughts are, after having seen some of the roads, and cars in the
border towns, I would never take my car there.
Sure, it may be different once away from the border, but you got to
cross threw them to get there.
I would look at having my friends send someone to get me.
Maybe by bus, if not there car.
