Jules, you're a liar. First you try to obscure reality with your phony
statistics; now you misrepresent what I said. I said nothing about the
"real" Mexico because, as a seasoned traveler, I know the "real" Mexico is
modern urban Mexico that, for the most part, isn't all that interesting for
travelers. I freely admit I mostly enjoy Mexico as it used to be--something
you can still find large pockets of--and is very very real for the people
who live there. That said, Cancun is even less "real" than the parts of
Mexico I enjoy. It's a plastic Disneyland version of Mexico that doesn't
even represent modern urban Mexico.

I said nothing about how wonderful Playa del Carmen is. It has become
a smaller, budget class version of Cancun. When I'm living in that area,
which I have done, it makes a good place for shopping or to catch a nice
meal--outside the tourist district, thank you very much. There's also a
dentist I like there and it's between me and Cozumel. Other than that I
don't spend a lot of time there. What I said was that we had returned to the
airport from _south_ of Playa del Carmen. That "general squalor" on "the
other side of the highway" is part of the divide between the relatively well
off and the people they employ that I had been talking about and that you've
been trying to minimize. You're stumbling around in your own
misrepresentations.

Bite me Jules.
