Subject: Re: Oaxaca disruption? Posted on: Fri, 30 Jun 2006 17:02:00 +0000 (UTC)

I left Oaxaca on June 21. The teachers were clearing out as summer
break is coming. Although there was some police involvement at one
point and tear gas, etc. I never saw any of that. Everything was
peaceful on the zocalo, but terrible graffiti and shops right on the
zocalo were all closed. By the time you get there things will probably
be back to normal.

The rest of the city was completely normal. We did have to move from
Hostal La Noria which is just off the zocalo to their other hotel
Hacienda La Noria---15 minute walk to zocalo but we like it better
anyway because of the pool and restaurant.

We saw no police presence at all in the zocalo.
