Judith,

The best time to visit Patagonia is this time end december to end
februari although it is holliday season in south america jan/feb an can
be crowded if you for instance want to make a track in Torres del
paine. The whether can vary very much. In the lake district of Chili
(Puerto mont) it can easily be 25-30 degrees C. More south it can reach
20-25 max but there will be always wind so at least bring a windjack.
Best thing to do is to have several layers so you can peel or vice
versa. For place to visit check out
www.worldwidetrails.org/patagonia.php with nice photoalbums. I
personaly advise Torres del paine (Puerto Natal - Chili), Perito Moreno
(los glaciares - el calafate Argentina) for Patagonia.
