Take the tour bus from Cancun to the ruins. Included a guide, and since it
is an all day tour, lots of the people fell asleep on the return. Sure you
can rent a car, but why for a tour like this. Since most of the day will be
spent at the ruins, you are paying for a lot of non-use for the car. Rent a
car and visit the towns around the area, and enjoy a day like that, but for
the ruins tour, just get on the bus. Was not very costly from what I
remember.
