Subject: buying a car in mexico Posted on: Sat, 11 Nov 2006 02:57:21 +0000 (UTC)

A friend is going to be living in Merida, Mexico for at least the next
two years. He's about to buy a new car (probably a Rav4) and is trying
to figure out if it's better to buy it in the US or in Mexico. One US
dealer told him that his US new car warranty would not be honored by
Mexican dealers. On the other hand, a Mexican dealer said that the
warranty on a Mexican-purchased car would be honored anywhere in Mex.,
US, or Canada. Anybody know?

The same US dealer also told him what sounds to me like a complete cock
& bull story: Japanese cars imported into Mexico are manufactured as
RHD vehicles (as they would be for sale in Japan) and are converted to
LHD in Mexico. Anybody heard of this one?

Any advice would be appreciated.
