The history channel just had a great show on this. The host was
intelligent and well spoken, not "extreme" and exploitive and yelling
like other shows.

He did the full drive from La Paz, and met up with a local along the
way to guide him thru the most dangerous parts -- also gave the back
story on how/why it was built, and the importance it serves to the
people of the region.

I was impressed - can probably find more on historychannel.com
