Just got back from Cancun. A few tips:
First, it is indeed easier and cheaper to book tours through hotel. You
can purchase the tour package 10PM for the next day :-) Some web site
claimed 45% discount, but is still more expensive than what you get
from the hotel.
Second, it does not make much sense to book hotel-airport
transportation either. Shuttle is pretty quick as all hotels are
essentially on the same road. Taxi from hotel to airport is cheap ($20)
too.
Third, try not combine Tulum with Xel-ha in the same tour, as you will
waist 2+ hours in Tulum and you still pay your all-inclusive pacakge in
Xel-ha.
Fourth, if you do not speak Spanish, try to rent an earphone for
instant interpretation in Chichen Itza Light and Sound show. We
followed the advise of our tour guide (who said the interpretation is
not clear) and did not rent one, and did not understand anything (the
tour guide said there will be some one explain the show in English, but
never happened). You might want to rent one.
If you go to Xcaret tour, it does not worth the $25 to upgrade your
package to include the buffet, in my personal opinion :-)
Thanks all for the replies.
