1) beautiful beaches
The beaches in the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo will be similar to what you found in
La Paz. Most of them will be quite rocky. Personally, I think the Pacific
just doesn't come close to the beauty of Caribbean beaches like Cancun and
Jamaica with the powder-like sand.
2) agers will enjoy
This depends on how active your agers are. Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo are
described in guide books and other literature as "sleepy fishing villages"
and so if it's quiet and relaxation your agers are looking for, then
this is the place. I would say Jamaica would have a lot more options for
activities.
3) decent 3-star hotel
The Ixtapa area was developed by Fonatur, the Mexican tourism agency, and
the same agency that developed Cancun. They tend to cater to more luxurious
tastes and so I would say Jamaica would have more 3-star hotels.
4) safety.
Ixtapa would win out in this category and we've all heard horror stories
about Jamaica, from murders to drug dealers. However, if you don't venture
out of the resort too much, Jamaica is not that bad. However, all in all,
Ixtapa would probably be safer.
