I never really thought much of it. I guess they figured since the value of
the MXN is so far from that of the USD that people could guess the currency
used to list a price based on the magnitude of the number following the
dollar sign.
Once you leave the border towns in the north and the resorts towns along the
coasts, the USD isn't really accepted much of anywhere so you can assume
that everything is listed in MXN unless some merchant goes out of his way to
make it obvious that his goods are priced in another currency.
