Sure. Lots of them end up in Mexico for some strange reason. I
didn't say this never happens in the US, just that it is rampant in
Mexico and actively participated in by crooked cops. I worked in
Mexico City and one of the Mexicans I worked with came in one day
saying that he had been stopped by some cops and taken to an ATM to
empty it. He talked them out of going in the ATM booth with him to
see how much was in his account, saying that they had cameras which
would take their picture. He took out a couple of hundred bucks to
give them and, on his way out of the booth, another cop car pulled out
and asked him what was happening. When he told them, the two sets of
cops got in a big argument all with guns drawn, because they had taken
him to an ATM in their territory. Because of this, they let him go
because they couldn't agree on who should get the cash. And with his
money intact. Never heard of anything like that in the US. |
