Subject: Tierra del Fuego - biting insects?? Posted on: Thu, 8 Nov 2007 10:27:17 +0000 (UTC)

Hi

I have an Antarctic trip booked for mid January and prior to boarding
the ship I have a couple of free days in Ushuaia.

One of the things I want to do in Ushuaia is to do some walking in
Tierra del Fuego NP. Unfortunately I am one of those people who act
as a "mosquito magnet" and invariably have a permanent cloud of biting
insects hovering over me (I even managed to be the only person in our
party to be bitten by a tick in Siberia a few years ago).

Whilst I assume that Antarctica itself is free of biting insects, do I
need to take (industrial strength) DEET for Tierra del Fuego?

Regards and thanks in advance
