La Tigra National Park is one of the most beautiful places in Honduras.
Located at an altitude of 2,270m/7,446ft, the unspoiled 7,482ha/18,480ac
park preserves a lush cloud forest that is home to ocelots, pumas,
monkeys and quetzal, orchids, 200 species of birds and has six paths for
hiking.
It is located just outside the capitol city of Tegucigalpa.
However, spotting wildlife in Honduras is always iffy. The animals have
learned to avoid any and all human contact. Poaching is common in
Honduras as food can be scarce for poor families. The government can not
afford effective protection even inside the national parks.
