I can't comment on Tulum, I missed it. However, a site not
too far away worth visiting is Ek Balam. See photos 2
through 5 here as a small sample:

It's about an hour's cab-ride north of Valladolid, here is a

One of the things I liked was that the complex was quiet,
with very few tourists.

And, of course, there is also Chichen Itza.
