In january 1999 i triped to this area. I was flight from Sao Paulo to
Manaus. There is a lot of things to do, for example:
-Sleep in a forest lodge (more expensive), but more romantic. The
lodges are located about 3 hours for taxi boat and in the night you
will not see the city night.
-Beach in Ponta Negra (13 Km from Manaus Downtown), you could go in
regular bus.
-Beach in Presidente Figueredo (all day tour).
-Regular tours in the forest: 4-8-12 hours or more days.
There is a lot of cheap hotels, like Dona Joana or anothers in this
area, but there is a cheaper way to sleep, more dangerous, very, very
cheap. Sleep in a hamock in a boat, when it is loaded to leave in the
another day. It is free.
Then i triped in a boat for 4 days to Belem. All foods are included,
sleeping in a hamock, around U$S65. Very nice, but slow. These boats
leaves Manaus every day.
In Parintins, a little town at the Amazon River, there is a Festival
"Boi Bum Ba". It is very interesting.
Near Santarem is Alter do chao. Search for it in the web. There are
too many beaches. You can stop in Santarem and antoher day took
another boat to Belem.
In Belem, take a boat to Porto Camará, in the Marajó Island. 4 hours
boat. Then bus (1 hour) to Salvaterra. Salvaterra and Soure are two
little villages. Great! Beachs, rainforest and fishers.
