We have been to Mexico City and central Mexico during the summer. We
did experience quite a bit of rain, including a very hard drive out of
Mexico City when heavy rain flooded the streets. That said, the rain
did not spoil our vacation. We had some sunny days also. I don't
remember a specific pattern to the rain, although I remember some rainy
evenings. I suggest that you bring umbrellas or ponchos or whatever
raingear you like, and have a good time. If you go to the ruins on a
rainy day, you could consider rubber boots, which tend to make rain and
mud more tolerable. The polution in Mexico City is less during the
summer, it gets washed out by the rain!
Be careful about taxis, taxi robberies are a problem in Mexico City.
Buy a taxi ticket at the taxi window and take it to the taxi stand at
the airport and bus station. Have your hotel call you a taxi, they
should write down the licence plate, etc. Do not get into random
passing taxis.
You probably know this, but driving in Mexico City is very tough, I only
do it every 10 years or so. It takes me 10 years to forget how hard it
was last time! ;-)
