Hello Gareth,
My wife and I did this trip only 3 weeks ago.
Scarey yet spectacular bus rides. To appreciate it all, you must do it all
in daylight.
We planned it that way and it worked perfectly.
The stages we used were:
1 Hauncayo - Ayacucho 10 hrs 320km
2 Ayacucho - Andahuaylas 11 hrs 252km
3 Andahuaylas - Abancay 5 hrs ? km
4 Abancay - Cusco 5 hrs 195km

I can give you cost of accom, location of same, cost of bus, location of
terminals, timing etc if you like because I have just compiled the data we
gained. It will have to come as attachments to you. If you have other
specific questions then pls contact me either thro' ng or direct.
As a matter of interest, we started at Cajamarca and came right down the
mountain chain to Cusco except for a gap between Huamachuco and Caraz. We
took the planned 6 weeks to do this.

Cheers, Philipj
