You cannot get from Lima to Santiago by train but you certainly can by bus.
Suggest you use Cruz del Sur buses, about the best in SA.
A good experience of the ORIENT EXPRESS is the train from Santiago to
Temuco, about 700km south of Santiago.
The coaches were built in Wroclaw, Poland in 1929. Very comfortable but take
your own evening meal for the train, as on boaord meals are not cheap. we
had a compartment at about 37,000pesos but worth it.
