I don't understand why you don't pay in the local currency
The US $ isnt any more THE world currency (was it ever?)
Paying with $ is showing you are THE tourist...
And NO "when paying in foreign countries..." it also happens to foreigners
in Anacostia (DC) for example...
The word foreign has nothing to do with it.
Stop thinking you can only be safe in your own country, because that's not
true!
AND you went back to the same station, well I wouldn't have!
