The cost of sweaters varies WIDELY... from (sorry, but I am going to
give my references in US$) $5 to $150. The difference in price is, of
course, quality. There is a huge variety of sweaters in the Pisac
market, but you need to be very careful as many of these are not even
Alpaca, or some other fine, soft material (many are woven from
man-made fibers, and if you are lucky, others are cotton). I bought a
couple of cheap sweaters in the Pisac market- mostly because I was
cold every night in Peru, and needed more warm clothes- but I knew
that I was not getting great quality. I also bought a couple of very
nice sweaters that I expect to last me a long, long time in a couple
of stores in Cuzco. Each of these Cuzco sweaters was ~$70, but they
were very well made, and the material was very soft baby Alpaca.
The Pisac market has a wealth of Peruvian knick knacks- pottery, chess
sets, dolls, purses and bags, weavings, t-shirts, figurines, sweaters,
ponchos, slippers (which were my favorite purchase) and etc. Heavy
bargaining goes on in the Pisac market (whereas in Cuzco, most of the
nicer stores have set prices that are only negotiable if you are
buying a lot of items).
On another note... I had a really great, inexpensive lunch sitting
outside of the hotel/cafe on the corner of main plaza in Pisac
overlooking the market. It was really nice way to relax and take in
the scene. Also, the bathrooms there were very nice for Peru (well
worth having lunch there).
