You don't say what time of year you'll be there. If if was me (and it
will be me next month) I'd just drive down there and look around. There are
a bunch of very pleasant places that fit your discription near the entrance
to Sian Ka'an, near or on the beach and on the outskirts of Tulum. They're
all strung along the same road that goes into Sian Ka'an. IIRC the Tankan
Inn is one of them, but I don't know one hotel from another in that area.
Once high season starts, around mid-December, I'd make sure to have
reservations in advance. As I'm going to be there in the off season I'll
probably spend a day or two at Paamul, which doesn't quite fit your criteria
because it's mostly an RV park with some rooms and a passable restaurant. I
like it because it has a nice little cove that's pleasant to night snorkle
in. Even during the day I'll usually see octopus and peacock flounder. This
time of year it's possible to pop over to Cozumel for a day and get a
pleasant room for around $30. Particularly on Saturday evenings there are
often bands playing on the main square. From Coz' I'll play it by ear.
