Subject: Rio: Going in one week, some specific questions Posted on: 12 Oct 2003 06:58:00 GMT

Hi all,

My wife, 3 year old daughter, & I will be visiting Rio next week for a two week
vacation. Primary purpose of the trip is to just enjoy the beaches, city, etc
but we'll also be there for a wedding near the end of our vacation.

I'd appreciate any assistance with the following questions:

* Customs: I tend to carry a good amount of photographic equipment, laptop, &
some electronics gizmos, should I anticipate being hassled by customs for these
items. We'll also be carrying gifts for some friends there, inclusive of a box
or two of some new software, maybe some booze, will this present a problem. I
travel a great deal to Jakarta and whenevrer issues like this arose, $20 bucks
handed to the right guy usually made it go away, is this the case in Rio?

* Will a US based GSM triband phone (TMobile) roam in Rio?

* Do any of you know anything about Parthenon Flats (Av. Rainha Elizabeth 440
Ipanema), our friends in Rio booked this for us. I'd appreciate any insight
into the area where the hotel is located and quality of accomodations, esp
pool, as my daughter loves to swim.

* Any child friendly museums, zoos, etc, something a three year old would
enjoy? Obviously we plan on seeing all the major sights but I'd like to do
something special for her.

Thanks for any comments,
Des
