Subject: Re: Practicalities of tours from Cayo (San Ignacio) in Belize Posted on: Tue, 14 Oct 2003 02:29:32 GMT

Thanks Lan and Louisg for your encouragement.

Louisg, I intended to write you and give you a detailed repoart of my trip,
but I became too perfectionistic and so haven't finished anything that's
presentable yet. But here's a short report:

The Belize trip was very pleasant. The people were friendly and relaxed.
The weather were comfortable (sometimes a bit hot). The country was
beautiful. I spent about 3 weeks there, because my attempt to go to
Guatemala failed two more times: at Guatemala embassy in Belize City they
refused to give me a visa, and at the border near Cayo (they said I was in
the immigration category and I had to apply for a visa and wait 2 months and
then I might not get it afterall). Because my friend injuried his knee the
first day in Cayo, we spent a whole week there and I collected quite a bit
of information of the area. My itinerary:

Caye Caulker 2 days; bus 1 day; San Ignacio 6 days; Blue Hole park and bus 1
day; Plancencia 1 days; Caye Caulker 6 days (scuba course).

So far I wrote up one story about a tour in Cayo and I will send to you when
I am satisfied. Also I have some pictures to share when properly captioned.
Perhaps Lan can use some of the stuff in his website.

I didn't go with Ian Anderson's caving tours. He is not based in Cayo. He
is near the Blue Hole park, and he charges at least $65 per person for the
tubing/caving tour. There is one other guy at the Blue Hole who does the
same tour for less (and he also offers jungle survival course, 4 day
recommended, $400 one person, $500 two persons, etc.) But I was lucky to
attach myself to a small group going into the caves (no tubing).

How was your trip? You must have been back already.

Jorielle
