Well, Mario, John's advice is quite accurate. If you have 3 weeks you
could add Mendoza-Córdoba and Salta-Tucumán. Buses are excellent,
trains remain very few but are all having a quick rebirth. Best line,
Bs. As. - Mar del Plata (5 hours). May go and come in two days. Could
do Mendoza and Córdoba triangular by bus, a night each. And being in
Bs. As. you could make escapes to La Plata, Delta del Paraná and
Colonia del Sacramento (Uruguay). Bars, restaurants, hotels there are
thousands: everywhere you will be fine. Tha standards in household,
food and health are very high. We Argentines do not usually plan
details for holidays, because bad places to stay or eat are not
accepted and close very soon. Just arrive to a city and ask the
policemen, the Automóvil Club clerks or the teachers: they will point
out the best and cheapest places to stay and eat.
Touristy things not worth seeing are all those which touristic
agencies offer, especially nasty tango and gaucho shows. Just make
friends and listen to their advice. It is VERY easy to avoid that
garbage.
Prices are cheap everywhere, since we had a peso attached to US dollar
and now it costs $ 2,85. Internal prices did not rise in that
proportion.
