Subject: Re: BrazilPass baggage rules?? Posted on: 3 Nov 2003 09:33:12 GMT

I have just returned from Brazil and flew Sao Paulo - Iguaçu - Sao Paulo -
Manaus - Rio de Janeiro - Sao Paulo on Varig Brazil airpass.

My international ticket to Brazil (from South Africa) said 2 pieces. The
local flights within Brazil on "Brazil Pass" said 20Kg. I used a 'large'
case packed to 20Kg and a small carry-on case for my trip. I noticed that
Varig etc. were quite strict about the size and weight of carry-on luggage
and even stopped some from entering the cabin at the door of the aircraft.
(There is a maximum standard size carry-on size, which must be 5Kg or less).

Three points:

I also noticed that the flights were all full (overbooked in my opinion).
From Sao Paulo to Iguaçu, we were approached by airline staff to take a
later flight due to the flight being "very full" i.e. overbooked. I declined
as I needed to make my connection. I suggest booking in early.

All flights were very punctual leaving and arriving and generally the
airlines/airports in Brazil were well run.

My only regret: not visiting Salvador (would have cost noting extra on the
pass), and I found Brazil a very cheap destination at 1 USD = 2.85 Brazilian
Reis (changes daily).

Enjoy your trip.
