Read "Road Fever" by Tim Cahill. Over 10 years ago Tim and another
guy set a world speed record driving from the tip of South America to
Alaska. They solved the Darian Gap problem by shipping their truck
from Columbia to Panama. It sounds like taking a car to South America
is very expensive and difficult.
