Your possible visit to the "Mosquito Coast" caught my attention.

I get regular monthly reports from researchers, aid workers and visitors
working in, living in and traveling through the Honduran Mosquitia region,
and throughout Nicaragua's RAAN and RAAS regions (also a part of the
Mosquitia).

Honduran Mosquitia:

All indicators show no violent crimes commited against my correspondents
throughout the Honduras Mosquitia region (the Department of Gracias a Dios,
on the map). Petty crime like theft of personal items and camping gear where
the thief uses stealth (not weapons) sporadically takes place in Puerto
Lempira and Wampusirpi, though very rarely.

Cocaine binges in various villages throughout the Honduran Mosquitia takes
place from time-to-time, but typically don't involve outsiders, and result
in local inhabitant fatalities only-- thus far. Stay away from this kind of
get-together.

Nicaragua RAAN/RAAS sectors:

Violent crimes against visitors is very rare but does happen, and
historically seem take place in the town of Bluefields (south), and Sandy
Bay area (way up in the north). The off-shore Corn Islands seem to be quite
quiet vis-a-vis violent crime against visitors/outsiders. Petty crime is
prevalent throught the RAAN and RAAS, but again the thief uses stealth (not
weapons).

Cocaine is much more prevalent along the coast of RAAN/RAAS, and rowdy
binges take place regularly resulting primarily in local population
fatalities. Stay away from this kind of get-together.

Border *land* crossing from Honduras Mosquitia into RAAN, Nicaragua:

Local inhabitants regularly cross back and forth across the Rio Coco, but
foreign nationals will be strictly prohibited from doing this. I.E. is is
not possible for a visiting non-local to cross the Rio Coco legally.

Border *water* crossing from Honduras Mosquitia into RAAN, Nicaragua:

If you sail or boat from offshore into Nicaragua near-shore waters from
Honduras, or reverse, there is a Nicaragua NAVY post on Miskito Cay, and a
Honduras police post at Barra Caratasca to contend with. You must pilot into
Puerto Cabezas or Barra Caratasca if you wish to make land in Nicaragua or
Honduras.

Mosquitia regions, visit my website at:

Have fun,
