Actually, this needs some refinement.

First, Teotihuacan is a simple day trip while in Mexico City.

Second, do Cuernavaca and Taxco on the same leg. The trip from Acapulco
to Mexico City is 4.5 hrs.

If you do the mountainous route you add 3 plus hours each way. And it
costs more.
