Untrue. I drank the water and ate fresh fruits in Playa del Carmen,
Mexico. I did not get sick. What I observed was people not used to
spicy foods eating stuff with lots of hot peppers. They got sick
because their systems weren't used to it. My Travel Agent calls them,
All Inclusive Aholics. These are the folks who overindulge in food and
drink to "get their money's worth" at an All Inclusive resort. They get
sick. Let's face it you can only eat so many servings of whatever, and
drink so much beer / wine / tequila without it biting you in the posterior.

It is only in the truly off the track places away from the tourist zones
that you have to worry about unprocessed water and unwashed food.
Pepto Bismol is probably the worst thing you could take if you get
sick. If by chance you have picked up a parasite. Most are
self-limiting meaning that after hitting the toilet for a day, you are
over it and you body has shed it. Should you actually get something like
Giardia Lamblia (Giardisis) from bad water. Peto Bismol darkens the
stool and makes diagnosis very difficult.
