Re: Mexico's Copper Canyon Posted on: Mon, 19 Jul 2004 15:40:07 GMT

I have heard that one should avoid the rainy season, May to October, as
the rainy season can cause mudslides and rockfall blocking the tracks
and disrupting the train schedule.

I suggest at least two nights in the canyon proper, to allow a full day
for hiking and taking in the canyon, we only stayed one night. Creel is
a good base, but not really a tourist attraction in itself. People that
have been to Batopillas like it, but it is a long ride on dirt roads.
Los Mochis is nothing special, probably better to start in El Fuerte.
Chihuahua is a large city, the Pancho Villa museum is worthwhile.

my two cents.
