It is a common caution to not drive at night in Latin Americ, for good reasons,
especially on a long distance highway trip.
Driving locally around town is usually OK, but not out on the highways, such as
SJO to the coast.
Best to overnight in Alajuela and pick up your vehicle next AM. You will save a
day on your rental, maybe your life, or a cow's life.
