Cancun and Tulum in Southern Mexico appear to be good choices - Chichen
Itza is a short trip from Cancun and of course Tulum is by the sea. I
understand though that Cancun becomes saturated with students during
spring break so you may not want to go there then if you want to immerse
yourself more in the local culture.
