No, the road heading south out of Quepos is NOT the Interamerican
Highway. Someday it will be, but not yet. The government keeps
promising to pave the road between Quepos and Dominical, and I believe
some work has been done. But it is indeed, one of the worst roads in
the country. Past Dominical, the road is new and very good. Well, at
least it was 2 years ago. It may have developed pot holes since the
last time I travelled it.

Interamerican Highway runs down the middle of the country, and is not
a coastal route. But I think the general plan is to finish the coastal
route and it will become the preferred route from the southern zone to
the central valley.
