Zihuatanejo - playa la ropa - hotel casa del mar
I flew into zihua on a cheap charter and used it as my start/finish on
a trip to Michoacan. I thought that a night on the beach would be nice
before my flight home so I went out to playa la ropa and walked along
the beach until I saw what looked like a nice but not fancy place. I
was shown a bungalow on the beach and so I gave them $85 US and had a
receipt for a room the following Sunday - a week off.
I returned to Zihua from Uruapan the next Sunday and went out to get my
room. I wasn't given the room I was shown, but instead I was taken
along a path about 100 yards back and put in a bungalow there. I
thought "OK, no big deal; it's only a night."
After I got into my beach clothes I went for a little walk and found
that my room was next to a huge kind of swamp. There was a sign that
said it was a crocodile preserve, but I recognised it as a cesspool. It
was obvious that the pond was filled with raw sewage. Now I knew why
they had put a can of glade in the room. My nose doesn't work very well
but after a while I could really smell it. Oh well, it's only one
night.
I was quite tired from my traveling so I lay down to sleep at about 8.
At ten o'clock I thought there had been a wind gust thru the window
because I heard a bag of breadsticks fall off the table onto the floor.
Soon after I heard a lot of chewing and I got up to investigate. I
found a huge rat in the drawer of the dresser, so I went down to the
reception area to get somebody to do something.
I found the night guy sleeping on a couch and got him up and he came
back to the room with me. We chased the rat around for about a half
hour until it ran into the bathroom and could no longer be found. I
though maybe it left so the guy went back to his couch and I went back
to bed.
About 2 am the rat was running around on my bed and woke me up so i
went back down and got the guy again and we chased the rat around for
about an hour and finally I whacked it with my shoe and killed it.
There was a lot of rat blood on the floor so the guy went and got a mop
and mopped it up and tossed the rat.
My question is this: he said to me "la merita" several times; what did
he mean?
