I very much enjoyed the train between Cuzco and Puno. I takes about ten
hours but you see a wonderful landscape along the way and also get some
glimpses of the life of the people in this area.
By the way, I flew from Arequipa to Cuzco and took the train from there
to Puno as I figured that this would give me a better chance to get used
to the altitude. Puno is more than 500 metres higher than Cuzco and I
saw many people there who were getting oxygen treatment...
You'll have quite a tight schedule anyway: there's so much to see in and
around Cuzco that you easily could spend one or two weeks there, the
same goes for Arequipa if you visit the Colca Canyon.
I did about the same route in a month - and didn't find this too much
time...
