I've spent a fair amount of time in SJ, and I wouldn't say it has
anything to recommend it. If you've never been to a Latin American city
before, you might find it interesting just to walk around and see how
they do things. Otherwise, I would spend as little time there as
possible. It didn't strike me as particularly unsafe or dirty--though I
used to live in Lima, Peru, so my standards are a little off--but not
particularly interesting, either.
