In the summer of 1999 I took a plane from Cancun to Flores then a bus to
el remate on a 27 day trip.
From el remate, you can visit the Biosphere , tikal and some ruins on
private land,
study area to the west. In 99 there was not a canopy walk or anything, in
fact we only
people in tikal and flores for the most part.
We were there for 6+ days and then took the bus to belize city and rented
a samurai.
In the samurai we back tracked to Caracol near the Guatemala border.
We were the only ones at Caracol, 34 miles up a one track dirt road.
If you need other people around Caracol is not for you.
In the jungle we did meet a group of british special forces doing their
thing near pine ridge.
We ended the trip visiting the jaguar reserve and then heading down to
serenity for the last few days.
