Hmmm, Well I've done a lot of camping in Mexico and free camping is
the exception rather than the norm. They don't have the vast stretches of
public land we know and expect in the US. Even the "free" camping I've done
usually wasn't free. Despite the fact that they don't list many free spots
I'd suggest that up pick up the Traveler's Guide to Mexican Camping, by Mike
and Teri Church. They have lots of useful information and there will be
times when you'll need a regular campground.
That said, finding "free" spots is relatively easy--just talk to
people. The thing is, in general, when someone does you a favor in Mexico
the cultural expection is that you will somehow repay that favor.
I assume you've done the math? This works out to around 280 kilometers
per day. You aren't going to have time to do much but ride.
