Hi, Julien,

I second Patrick's suggestion of going to the Yucatan, but for a more
authentic experience fly to Merida and make that your base for
exploration. It is very easy to take buses to the different
archaeological sites, to Vallodolid, to various caves open for
tourists, and you can also visit the village of Celestun and hire a
boat to take you out to see thousands of flamingos, then walk into town
and enjoy lunch at a beachside restaurant. It is also fun to hire a
driver for a day who can take you to less-visited sites as well.
