just use it, dont try to look for "logical" because all languages are
plenty of idioms and odd expresions, specially spanish. I am native
spanish speaker and have no idea on your doubts, but it seems clear to
me that "algunas veces" instead "alguna vez" is OK.

I'm not splitting hairs on grammar. I don't even know what "veces"
means at all. I can't find it in my dictionary.
