I d say NEVER use a calling card unless you know IN ADVANCE what rate you
are going to pay, especially a Canadian card in the US.

We have 2 US cards: one from Sams Club (A Walmart warehouse club) (AT&T)
which runs 2.9 cents min and an MCI card from Costco (USA) thats 3.5
cents/min. Either one costs $ 20.00 and has about 670 minutes on it. They
can be recharged by credit card when you get low. The ONLY way to go in the
USA especially from hotel or payphones.
Our local (Cdn) TELUS card would be about 60 cents/min..what a rip off.
Some hotel LD calls can run like you said-Pure robbery.

From a regular phone LD (home, etc) use "YAK Communications"
1015945-1-(area code)number. Dial all in one line..dont wait for any
dialtones or prompts. Its 5 cents a minute..no other monthly fee etc like $
2.95 or $ 3.95...5 cents, TO Canada, FROM Canada, IN Canada. Shows up on
yer regular phone bill about a month later. NO phone company charges less.
